Sinter and Pellet Plant Pallet Car Replacement: Interface Checklist
A replacement pallet car should be specified for the installed travelling-grate machine, including frame geometry, running interfaces and the agreed supplied components. A sinter plant pallet car and a pellet plant pallet car should not be assumed interchangeable because they share a name.
State whether the enquiry concerns a bare frame, selected elements or a complete assembly. Define how the replacement will be accepted against the existing machine before comparing supplier quotations.
Start with machine and position identification
Process and equipment identity
Record whether the installation is a sintering or pelletizing machine, along with OEM, machine tag and drawing revision. Attach the pallet assembly and relevant interface drawings. A general plant production rating does not establish the required car dimensions.
Component boundary
List centre/end frames, side walls, wheels, axles, bearings, grate elements, seals and fastening items only as applicable to the actual design. Mark retained and newly supplied items. The word complete must refer to an agreed list rather than an assumption.
Engineering insight: acceptance is an interface problem
A frame's overall length alone cannot confirm its relationship to rails, adjacent cars or other machine interfaces. Ask engineering to identify the critical datums and checks. Piece marks should link delivered components to the approved drawing and assembly position.
Metso's pallet car maintenance discussion describes condition monitoring and planned replacement of damaged or missing components. This is an OEM example, not evidence that OP supplies its automated changing system or proprietary components.
Buyer resource: pallet car replacement worksheet
- Process type, OEM, equipment tag and pallet assembly revision.
- Requested frame or assembly identification and quantities.
- Critical dimensions, datums and rail/running-interface drawings.
- Wheel, axle, bearing and adjacent-car interfaces as applicable.
- Grate, side-wall and sealing-component inclusion/exclusion list.
- Approved material, thermal-duty and examination requirements.
- Existing inspection/condition records with position identifiers.
- Assembly and dimensional acceptance criteria.
- Packing, handling information, delivery destination and outage plan.
- Installation, inspection and commissioning responsibilities.
If a supplier proposes an alternative material or modified assembly, request engineering approval before manufacture. A visual resemblance or a matching weight is not evidence of an equivalent design.
Avoid misleading material descriptions
OP's catalogue includes a grate-bar entry with a coating/material label. Do not use that label alone to infer suitability for hot service. Release the actual grade, finish and operating requirements through engineering. This article does not prescribe material grades, operating temperatures or repair procedures.
Frequently asked questions
Is a pallet car the same as a pallet trolley?
The terms may be used for a travelling-grate assembly. Confirm the exact drawing and process rather than treating vocabulary as proof of equivalence.
Does plant capacity define pallet car dimensions?
No. Machine design and interfaces are required.
Can only selected components be replaced?
Possibly, after condition and compatibility assessment. Clearly identify retained items and acceptance responsibility.
